Photo FAQ
What are the prices? 4x6 $6 5x7 $10 8x10 $18 11x14 $26 What quality of workmanship is used? Since I am a small shop, I will personally size your selections from the original raw file upon receiving your order. I use only professional tools such as Nikon Capture© 2, Adobe Photoshop©, and Adobe Photoshop Elements.© How were the original images obtained? All the lighthouse photos were shot with Nikon© equipment and Nikkor© lenses. Most originals were shot with a Nikon D1© and an 80-200mm AF-S© lens. Some were shot with a Nikon Pronea S©, and still a few were shot with a Nikon Coolpix 990©. Any photos shot with the Pronea produced a film output, this film was then scanned using a Nikon LS-2000© film scanner.
What is the quality of the output photos? The photos are produced in the following manner, the 4x6 prints are printed from a state of the art dye sublimation digital photo printer, the 5x7 and 8x10 prints are printed from a state of the art dye sublimation digital color printer and the 11x14 prints are printed from an Epson Stylus Photo 1270© color inkjet printer using a Jon Cone custom color profile. Do the prints require any special care? The 4x6, 5x7 and 8x10 prints when printed are coated with a clear lamination, this will help preserve the print for many years. I would say that these prints are as good as or better then your locally produced prints from a wet photo shop such as Ritz. I would recommend though that you place the prints in an album or in a frame. The 11x14 prints are another matter, with these prints it is MANDATORY that you place them behind glass. Some say that you should use a UV filtering glass such as Tru-Vue's product. All your retail frame shops know if it. Be careful about marketing names such as "museum glass" and the like.. They are not necessarily UV filtering...Tru_vue's UV filtering glass comes in both clear and non-glare... ask for it by name.. This is a must with any inkjet print.. (and not a bad practice in general!) (oh yea.. and NEVER let your photo rest against the glass.. Use mats or a frame spacer!) What else can be said about the prints? I can tell you a few other things, I have many of these prints hanging in my "lighthouse room" in my home. I have all sizes some small some large. Most are in frames some are not. Of the prints I have hanging the most stunning are the 11x14's of Portland Head and Cape Elizabeth. These prints are of fantastic quality even though they are produced from an inkjet. They have been hanging, behind glass for over a year with no signs of aging or fading. I personally gave a copy of the Cape Elizabeth 11x14 photo to the Elm's B&B in Camden, Maine to hang in their Cape Elizabeth room. I'm sure it receives many compliments. |
